June 24, 2025 (Tucson, Arizona) -- Saxscape is proud to introduce the Tensor™ Ligature for Saxscape SP and Otto Link Metal tenor saxophone mouthpieces.
The Tensor Ligature is a new invention that features a highly engineered 3D printed body made from reinforced nylon, designed to provide outward tension to make putting on reeds faster, easier, and more secure. The ligature's truss structure is designed for a balance of strength and flexibility. It also has end-flared brass rails to contact the reed, a diamond-knurled brass thumb screw, and Delrin bumpers which contact the top sides of the mouthpiece. The top part of the ligature is designed to safely clear the famous Otto Link "ridge". The brass rails contact the reed at four points, following a successful tradition from historic ligature designs.
"The Tensor is my concept for a ligature that makes it quick and easy to swap out a reed on a gig, when time is of the essence," according to Saxscape founder and ligature designer, Ken Barry. "It provides a very solid and secure feel that lets you precisely dial in the desired tension. And it's symmetrical, so it works for both left- and right-handed players."
The Tensor ligature retails for US$119.00, and is currently available at the Saxscape Reverb.com Online Store. Designs for other mouthpiece sizes, as well as an all-metal version, are in development.

FAQ's
How does it sound?
"I've been gigging with this ligature for the last 4 months, and it's been my favorite to play on since I started in the '80's.
My original goal was to make a really great clamp first and foremost, but the sound has been a pleasant surprise.
Tone, response, intonation, and reed-friendliness are all great. Different players have different preferences though, and that's why I offer a 2 week money back trial period."
What cap fits this ligature?
"The Rovner #3 cap is recommended for the Tensor SP ligature. It's available at
Rovner Products. I will be working on supplying a cap with the ligature in the future."
What is your warranty?
"The Tensor SP ligature has a 2 week money back guarantee, and a
lifetime replacement policy. If the ligature ever fails mechanically under normal use, I'll gladly replace it. I've tried to stress test it as much as possible, but am always striving to continue improving the design, and welcome all input to make that happen. One exception though: If the screw is removed from the ligature, it's not too difficult to pull the lig body apart wishbone-style. So keeping the screw in is recommended."
What motivated you to make this?
"Finding a reliable ligature supplier for my own mouthpieces, and making a ligature that's not 'fiddly' and uses the latest technology. With this one, you put the ligature on the mouthpiece, put the reed in, tighten a bit, check reed alignment, and then tighten securely. Then the mouthpiece goes on the horn."
